Unbelievable
Mon Jun 09, 2008 at 12:46:38 PM PDT
Trapper John's article yesterday about the role sexism played in the democratic nomination race generated a lot of interest and commentary. We can disagree about how much a role, if any, sexism played in causing Clinton's defeat. As progressives, however, we must certainly unite behind the ideal of human dignity for all, and join in abhorrence for sexism, racism, homophobia, and prejudices of all kinds that demean our brothers and sisters.

Zogby Poll: Clinton Dead Last in CIC Threshold
Sat Mar 29, 2008 at 11:09:10 AM PDT
In a new Zogby poll Hillary Clinton ranks dead last among voters from both parties to be CIC. Zogby surveyed 753 registered voters, with 65% rating McCain most qualified to be CIC, 33% for Obama and an abysmal 2% for Clinton. The poll, jointly commissioned by Larry Flynt and Playgirl magazine, was not released to the media, but sources within the McCain campaign learned of it and, predictably, quickly spread the news.
Anonymous sources within the Clinton campaign were disconsolate, as Senator Clinton herself invented that threshold and made it the centerpiece of her campaign. Most observers, however, expressed little surprise at Clinton’s poor showing. Zogby himself, when pressed for an explanation, demurred at first, but finally offered one possible factor: "Senator Clinton is, as has been widely reported, female. It is possible," Zogby continued, "that her reputation for being female seriously undercut voter confidence in her as ‘Cockhound in Chief.'" Clinton surrogates quickly denounced this as sexist and promised that the Senator herself would be delivering a major speech on the subject within days.
The Popular Vote Argument is Crap
Thu Mar 27, 2008 at 09:03:06 AM PDT
Expanding on an excellent diary by pocketnines that didn't receive enough attention, some democrats argue that superdelegates can place significant weight on the popular vote should Senator Clinton overtake Senator Obama's popular vote lead.
For example, Big Tent Democrat argues that if Obama finishes the primary season with a pledged delegate lead and a popular vote lead, he should be the nominee. BTD adds a caveat: the margin must be at least 500,000 votes to make up for a presumptive 500,000 vote victory Clinton would have achieved in Florida. This false precision has no legitimate place in the selection of our democratic nominee. Even without this false precision the popular vote totals do not accurately measure electability and deserve little or no weight except as noted below.

Over at TalkLeft, an ardent pro-Hillary blog, the proprietor, Jeralyn Merritt, does not allow anybody to call Hillary a liar. It's okay to say she was inaccurate though. At TalkLeft "chattering" is forbidden. A "chatterer" is somebody who holds views opposite of hers. So long as you agree with her, it's okay to post 50 comments, although her rules state that there is a maximum of 20 comments per day.
OBAMA- The Only Candidate who has not Failed the Commander in Chief Threshold

This election isn't about who has passed the Commander in Chief threshold. It's about who has failed it.
Clinton Campaign Fights Back on DailyKos Smears
Fri Mar 07, 2008 at 01:23:28 PM PDT
The continuing controversy over allegations that the Clinton campaign deliberately darkened and widened the picture of Barack Obama to subliminally play on subconscious racism and bigotry took a radical turn today, when the Clinton campaign mailed out the following fundraising denial of the allegations:
Stop Smurfing Obama!
Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 01:50:02 PM PDT
We've all by now seen the diaries by Kos and Troutnut suggesting that the Clinton campaign is putting blackface on Obama in order to play a race card. Sure, the evidence they present looks damning to most normal people. Stretching the video horizontally to make Obama's nose look wider was an accident. Yeah. Right. Pull the other one.
However, some people just refuse to acknowledge that this manipulation of the color and canvas could have been intentional. Surely the Clinton campaign would not be so desperate as to stoop to such tactics. Regrettable, their willingness to play any race card they can is revealed below.
