Urgent: How we need to answer the viral smear emails

Sun Jul 27, 2008 at 06:56:21 PM PDT

Ever since Senator Obama has announced his intention for seeking the Democratic nomination for the President of the United States, there have been a large group of people who have constantly sent out viral emails that smear Obama in almost every way imaginable. I've seen them dozens, maybe hundreds of times.

They usually come from people who consider themselves religious, and I have been answering them recently with a very effective method. I've even received emails back from various people I don't even know promising me that they will never forward another anti-Obama email ever again.

Follow me below the fold for what my responses to these emails are and why they seem to be effective.

Murdoch’s Political Escapades – Conflict of Interest??

Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 03:42:06 PM PDT

In 2002, Metromedia International Group (whose largest outside shareholder was Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.) started to run into trouble, eventually ending with the stock crashing from $20 to only 1 CENT (more details at http://www.dailykos.com/... The chief reasons for this MASSIVE DEVALUATION were numerous legal violations and missing assets in the realm of over $140 million. However, before any of these acts occurred, multiple Senators, holding crucial seats on committees which would be responsible for investigating the events to come, received $1,000 contributions from Murdoch and top Metromedia Execs. Is this really just a coincidence?

Major Foreign Policy Gaffe... By John McCain

Mon Jul 21, 2008 at 08:48:01 AM PDT

Earlier today on Good Morning America, Senator John McCain made an incredibly confusing gaffe about the Middle East. When he was asked whether the situation in Afghanistan was urgent he said it was not, but that we had a "lot of work to do" given the "Situation along the Iraq-Pakistan border".

To anyone vaguely familiar with Middle Eastern geography this would be incredibly perplexing, given the fact that Iraq and Pakistan are separated by over a thousand miles and the land mass of Iran. Perhaps McCain meant to say "Iran-Pakistan" border...? But that wouldn't make much sense. Maybe he really isn't that savvy about foreign affairs.

Critique of Obama ex-senior aid

Thu Jul 17, 2008 at 05:37:59 PM PDT

**Contrary to the comments, the blog -theseeing.wordpress.com, is run by me. Thank You.

As the 2008 Presidential Election heats up, I think it is time to analyze both candidates, thoughtfully. As most people have already seen John McCain (as an aggressive, hawkish, not-in-sync with the public candidate), which is quite true, I think we should also spend some time analyzing Obama. While everyone regards McCain's foreign policy as hawkish and following the steps of the Bush administration, we should also take a look at Obama's stance on foreign policy.

I recently told an Obama supporter that Obama's foreign policy seemed a little 'weird.' She told me to refer to Samantha Power, a foreign policy adviser to Obama.
*Some of you might remember Power as the lady who humorously referred to Hillary Clinton as a "monster."
Thus, I analyzed Samantha Power, and this is what I found:

Obama can change the game Pt. 1

Sun Jul 13, 2008 at 04:21:05 PM PDT

Obama has been a disappointment to me over the past 4 months.  Some of it might be because of the Hillary rear guard campaign but it seems that he's become Otimid and his political consultants want him to run a "typical" front-runner campaign.  Obama must change the game and stake out some different, pragmatic but not necessarily partisan positions.

Position 1 - Obama should pledge to get rid of the fillibuster.

Dear Senator Obama, Come Home to Illinois Before you Lose it

Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 10:35:31 AM PDT

Just a quick message to Senator Barack Obama.

Sir, you need to come visit your home State soon or risk losing it just like Gore lost his home state in 2000.

(This will be short but it's a very important point to make)

Like many Kossacks out there I too wrote to and received the response from Senator Feinstein regarding her position on FISA. I have responded to her letter and I'd like to share some of that with you.

I Believe that Congress has Forgotten Something

Mon Jun 30, 2008 at 09:57:53 AM PDT

Serving the Amercian people should supercede getting re-elected.

Do something

Tue Jun 24, 2008 at 01:59:25 PM PDT

This will be short and sweet.

Action must be taken on the FISA bill immediately.  We have very little time here.  Now that the House has passed this bill, a version of it has managed to secure passage in both legislative bodies.  Unless we stop this bill, our 4th Amendment will forever be distorted.  It won't be the first time our rights have been assaulted, but make no mistake, once this passes, what we've lost will be lost permanently.

Call AND write BOTH your Senators.  Whether they belong to the Democratic, Republican, Democratic Socialist, or Connecticut for Lieberman party, they need to hear from you, and they need to hear from you right now.  And again tomorrow.  And again and again until passage or the recess - whatever comes first.

STOP CALLING THEM RACIST, PLEASE!

Sun Jun 22, 2008 at 04:03:25 PM PDT

The Republicans are spending a whole lot a time attacking Senator Barack Obama on the color of his skin.  Because that’s all they have, fear of a  skin color.  This is causing a whole lot of humans calling a whole lot of other humans RACIST.  And this has to stop.

You see, I dislike the word "racist" more than I dislike racists.  The word "racist" sounds like a badge of honor, it sounds too much like scientist... botanist, biologist, it sounds like you had a lab and some test tubes and then you thought it through, but you didn’t.  Matter of fact, racist are choosing not to think.
If you are a racist, thinking it through is not something you know how to do.  Cause if you did, you wouldn’t be a racist.  And it really doesn’t take a whole lot of thinking to not be a racist.

Please, stop crying over Obama and FISA!

Fri Jun 20, 2008 at 07:37:00 PM PDT

I have a conservative friend that can't stand dailyKos and other liberal blogs. I, on the other hand, have been a reader of this community for about 2 years now, and only recently opened this account to interact within this community and also write some diaries when I feel I want my voice heard. This is one of those times.
One of my friend's complaints is that liberal blogs are often whiny and self-righteous. I couldn't agree with him less, because I always feel that this community, as a whole, is on the right (correct and moral) side of issues. However, I am really sick of all of the whiny and self-righteous diaries (yes, I said it) that have flowed through the right hand column of this website ALL DAY concerning FISA, as if it is the only issue, or even a big issue affecting America. You are mistaken if you think that Senator Obama is going to do everything that we want. Anyways, what the hell do you want him to do, wave a magic wand and tell everyone in the House and Senate how to vote? Lets not forget who is responsible for this mess, George F-ing W Bush, not Senator Obama.

A... Republican I could support?

Wed Jun 11, 2008 at 07:41:20 PM PDT

http://www.politico.com/...

Meet Bob Kelleher, the Republican nominee against Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) this year.

He is an 85-year-old attorney with some downright unconventional views. He believes the American system of representative government should be replaced by a parliamentary system. He calls for socialized medicine, advocates nationalizing the country’s oil and gas industries and believes taxes should be raised significantly to eradicate poverty.

It’s not the standard GOP platform, but nevertheless Kelleher defeated four other candidates in the primary to claim the Republican nomination.

"Cant hear the revolution?"
-Robert Pollard

While it's true we are still several tectonic shifts away any kind of real revolution here in the US, I think - the overhaul is here.  Whether or not it will be televised is still up to the media overlords, it seems who are already caught with their pants down by that damned inter/web (yep, it's all just a series of tubes!) and all of those pesky citizen journalists and that annoying 'real world' is intruding again into the dreamworlds of salesmen and monsters masked men and marauders everywhere are nervous - lawless rogue superpowers - out?

The Daily Show: Jim Webb, Senate Intelligence Report

Tue Jun 10, 2008 at 07:57:08 AM PDT

Last night on The Daily Show w. Jon Stewart Senator Jim Webb of Virginia (my favorite for Vice President) stopped by to promote his book "A Time To Fight" and discussed his G.I. Bill, the military, mercenaries and the current state of affairs in American politics.

The show also does a great job of covering the media's obsessive non-story about Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton's secret meeting, the barrage of questioning given to Obama on whether he'll select Hillary Clinton as his Vice Presidential choice etc.

But the best reporting last night was done on the media's lack of coverage over the Senate Intelligence Report that indicates we were lied into war in Iraq. You know when The Daily Show cares more about the Senate Intelligence Report than any of the 24 hour networks or big 3 cable channels' nightly news broadcast.

Weigh in with thoughts / opinions below:

Jim Webb the author and Jim Webb the politician

Sun Jun 08, 2008 at 09:49:27 PM PDT

Are they the same person?  Very much so.   The New York Review of Books Volume 55, Number 11 · June 26, 2008 has a review of A Time to Fight: Reclaiming a Fair and Just America entitled "The Jim Webb Story", by Elizabeth Drew.  She starts bt saying:

Webb is a serious writer, not a politician who writes books on the side. His first book, Fields of Fire, published in 1978, when Webb was thirty-two, is a sweeping, unflinching novel about Vietnam featuring two of life's losers who signed up for lack of anything else to do. It conveys with stark vividness, and also a touch of farce, the stench, the filth, the fear, and the bewildering unexpectedness of fighting an elusive enemy in a jungle. Fields of Fire has often been called the best book about Vietnam and likened to the war writing of Norman Mailer and Stephen Crane.

Look beneath the break for more.
