Prescience: "Are we building Democracy or fueling extremism?" SFRC 7/07, Musharraf's Resignation

Wed Aug 20, 2008 at 05:35:15 AM PDT

Originally, this article was posted at BMG, but my friend asked me to post it here.

In July, 2007, John Kerry chaired the U.S. Senate  Foreign Relations Committee's hearing on Pakistan's Future. The question was, "Are we building Democracy or fueling extremism?"

In light of almost eight years of escalating violence in Pakistan and the whole region, the murder/assassination of Benazir Bhutto during their elections, and now the resignation of Musharraf, the question Kerry asked seems almost prescient.

FOCKS NEWS REPORTS:McCain supports socialized medicine!

Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 11:54:30 PM PDT

The fair and balanced FOX news has created a new affiliate that they're calling FOCKS news.  I have been hired as their new investigative journalist.

For my first FOCKS report, I have been doing some investigative work into where our great hero, John McCain, stands on the issues.

I was surprised to find, despite his being a former POW, that he is really a radical liberal who wants socialized medicine.

Obama-Biden '08

Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 04:46:37 PM PDT

At what point to political speculations go beyond mere amusement and bet-fodder to outright spooky? It’s one thing to have predicted Obama to take the nomination nearly a year before he throws his hat in the ring but that’s nothing next to predicting McCain in early December of ’07 (in the now epic The Republican Candidates are the Most Unelectable Gang of Freaks in American History). But then to go on and nail down Senator Joe Biden as Bama’s Veep in late May of this year? I know what you’re saying: who is this iSenseChange and how is he so dead-on-balls accurate for this election? How can we reward this latter-day NeoNostradamus for the sheer prescience involved in these utterly uncanny picks of his? What glorious accolades can we lay at his freshly oiled feet, what leafy laurels around his surely massive skull? Judging from the lackluster response to my admittedly weird entries thus far, I’m guessing a handful of reads and less than ten comments. Half of which are my own. Fuck it, says I. Ignore me at your peril. I am the Kossack Kreskin. And I have massive nuts.

OOOPS. My bad. McCain To Announce VP on Katrina Anniversary?

Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 05:02:44 AM PDT

UPDATE:  Well, it appears that I "liberated" this diary from earlier today.  BAD NATHAN!  It is my revenge for Kos stealing this one from me, and BarbinMD stealing this one!  Bwwaaaa haa haa haa haa haa!  Revenge is mine.  Perhaps now I can get into the Evil League of Evil!

The Wall Street Journal tell us the new word is that the McCain campaign may be announcing his pick for Vice President on his birthday, August 29.

"Epic Blunder" Destroys Ballot Box Office

Tue Aug 19, 2008 at 04:43:26 AM PDT

Hollywood, CA
(APE) - "Blackman, the Dark Knight" America's latest ballot box office smash hit featuring newcomer Barack Obama was knocked out of the top slot this past weekend. "Epic Blunder ", a new dark comedy of errors featuring the triple threat comic genius of old-school Republican celebrities Dick Cheney, George W. Bush, and presumptive president John McCain knocked the Dark Knight out of the top slot this weekend despite dismal showings of $21 million versus over $56 million for the month of July.

Forget McCain...attack Bush!

Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 08:14:00 PM PDT

Question:  Should Barack Obama attack John McCain...

Answer:  Hellz NO!

Let me explain:  Everybody is sick of hearing about Barack Obama.  Recent polls have shown that the public (2/3rds of Republicans, Independents and 1/3 of Democrats) wants a different perspective.  Well I think it is time for B-rock to hit Republicans in their weak point....Dubya.  He needs to pick a fight with Georgey Boy....stop talking about John McCain and start bashing Bush.  Bush is an arrogant guy, you could tell in 2004 versus Kerry, and with his actions towards Democrats he just cannot stand being questioned by Democrats, I have a feeling he would take the debate.  Then not only is John McCain sidelined, then the election swings back towards George Bush's policies or Barack Obama.  Here are the three places I think Barack can start a fight with Bush over.

There's No Do-Overs in American Governance.

Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 11:35:50 AM PDT

Let's pull our heads up from the play-by-play and remember why we are here.

Better talking points

Sun Aug 17, 2008 at 08:09:39 AM PDT

From watching McCain last night and his surrogates on TV this morning, its clear that McCain has two talking points -- drill, drill, drill, and "spending" is the problem.

Obama's talking points -- I'm not sure, they are all over the place.  In the primary, his repetition of his opposition to the war won the race for him.  But he seems to have no consistent theme this time.

It's very simple -- Bush, Bush, Bush.  McCain promises more of the same Bush policies.  If you like Bush, vote McCain.

Let's Begin a Letter to Russia

Sat Aug 16, 2008 at 09:30:36 AM PDT

To the Russian government (Updated: it has been suggested "people"):

We the undersigned, wish to convey our deepest regret for the actions of the Bush administration in helping to create the crisis in Georgia.  A huge portion of our country despise their foreign policy methods and are working hard to try to push these idiots out of power.

They are doing everything in their power right now to resist that effort including their very successful past method of instilling fear into the voting public hoping they will act against reason and put a very old and unstable warmonger into the White House to protect them.

The U.S. response to Russia’s invasion of Georgia would be laughable if not so ominous for the future. I read statements of the President, the Secretary of State, and the Secretary of Defense. With the subsitution of a few nouns I saw how the past is coming back to bite. Indulge me:

"Russia {The U.S.} is putting its aspirations at risk by taking actions in Georgia {Iraq} that are inconsistent with the principles of those institutions," Bush said.

"Those institutions" refers to "international institutions" in which Russia desires to be a major player.

The public relations war we need to fight (& pie!)

Thu Aug 14, 2008 at 03:07:35 PM PDT

Historical background on the Lie Factory:

Remember the lead up to the Iraq War?  The hype was thick and well orchestrated. Cheney's gal Friday, Judith Miller, was dishing his dirt in the New York Times from an anonymous source (Scooter Libby, pardoned by Bush), and he cited her articles as proof that his ballyhoo was substantiated by a venerable newspaper (no longer).  The New York Times stood idly by, letting Cheney play this trick on the American public, anonomously corroborating himself via their reknown reporter (infamous now). The NY Times aided and abetted Cheney's artifice, which would unleash death and destruction on thousands, while sweetening the pot of special interests at our expense, without so much as a correction.

"Obama Nation" Almost Hits the Nail on the Head.

Wed Aug 13, 2008 at 09:02:02 AM PDT

The following is a key excerpt from the latest swiftboat manual, "Obama Nation":

In this book, I intend to argue that an Obama presidency would lead us into an "Obama Nation." The play on words is fully intended, because Obama’s radical leftist politics, driven by the cult of personality he has intentionally manufactured, would be an abomination in that the result of those policies would be to lead the United States in a costly and self-destructive direction, both at home and abroad. After an Obama presidency, we would be a militarily weakened and economically diminished nation. Instead of being more united, our internal conflicts could well become more sharpened and more abrasive from four years of Obama leadership.

Whatever the case maybe, it will be such a relief when we don't have a national embarrassment as "Preznit" anymore. I swear this last 8 years have been the longest I can ever remember.

Sorry for the short diary, I have to run an errand in a few minutes, but I couldn't resist sharing this gem.

Bush/McCain = National Security Disaster.

Tue Aug 12, 2008 at 04:44:37 PM PDT

I read Arianna's Piece "Prepping to Make the Case that McCain Isn't "Ready to Lead" on National Security" on HuffPo.

He realizes that if his hold on national security were to be aggressively challenged, his lead on that issue would evaporate. So I'm sure he's thrilled to keep the fighting far away from the one thing that could put him in the White House: the idea that he's somehow better at dealing with national security.

McCain has shown time and time again over the last seven years that, far from being an expert when it comes to foreign policy, he is frequently --- and dangerously -- clueless.
. . .
So every day between now and November 4th voters should be reminded that:

McCain has been among the most ardent supporters of the war in Iraq -- the most disastrous foreign policy decision in American history.

. . .

She goes on to list several examples from the vast repertoire of McCluelessness, and while she got the premise right, she sadly misses the punchline.

Danger after the fold.

Video Alert: Obama warned US B4 On Russian-Putin Aggression, Bush In Debate & Poll

Tue Aug 12, 2008 at 02:55:57 PM PDT

The situation between Georgia and Russia has dominated the media recently.

As McCain gets all the supposed credit. Do we realize, we all watched Barack Obama warn Bush, Journalist and America about the current bloody battle, that 8yrs of GOP rule, negligence has helped foster, with no present ability to combat it?

Below is the story, video and critique.

The situation is certainly grave. Though both sides are pointing at each other, and it's reported 1500 are already dead (mostly Ossetians); the skirmish is supposedly over, but still tenuous (it does seem the Georgian President, instigated this & Putin over-reacted).

But with all the hoopla and fighting taking place between the two countries, our President, and the Presidential candidates. It's easy to forget, that Barack Obama's prescient (though "hawkish")comments, criticism's and warnings of President George Bush's Russian foreign policy, and his assessment of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, during that Cleveland debate, hosted by NBC's Tim Russert, earlier this year(remember, the "who's the new Russian President"? question).
